The setting...

In a universe that almost is, just out of reach beyond the edge of reality, mysterious forces underlie the fabric of existence. Energematrice6, the very energy of creation, serves as both the elixir of life and the arsenal of destruction for its human—and not-so-human denizens. Crushing darkness, whose source they cannot fathom, grips the cosmos and its people. In anguish, they dream of the long-foretold Brightstar.

Brightstar:

The Story Begins

“Darkness before you and chaos behind you, in hubris and weakness the bright star will blind you.”

Nate, an autistic boy from this world, is ripped from the prison of his unbearable daily life and thrust into a different universe whose very foundations are built on mysterious forces. There, he has no memory of his past and his autism is refocused and transformed into a near superpower.

Caught up in a mission he can barely recall from his shattered memories, Nate must learn to live an entirely unfamiliar life, filled with difficulties (and monsters) he could never have imagined. Existence in a new galaxy with new friends is a challenge, especially with powerful enemies and sinister forces attempting to destroy everything around them. Most important of all is the critical lesson:

“You must face your past before you can find your future.”

Who Are the Odds?

Genesis of a Dark Age:

Thousands of years before the arrival of the Brightstar, escapees from dying Earth were transported through the darkness beyond reality itself to a new home. Though the colonists' physical safety was never in danger following their arrival in the Aurora Galaxy, the little group struggled to confront the horrors of a dark past that some wished simply to forget.

From the Void:

Rachel Casisia and her brother Jon were the first of the “Odds,” but they were not the only ones in the Aurora Galaxy. Soon after their confrontation with the mob on Aterria, the Casisias encountered another who aged as slowly as they did. For a millenia, the story was lost to history, leaving Galton’s origin shrouded in mystery until it was finally recorded and passed down by Jon Casisia several thousand years after the fact.

The Keeper of the Mysteries:

Between the mysterious disappearance of Paul Casisia and the arrival of the Brightstar in the Aurora Galaxy was the time of Teron Galton, the Keeper of the Mysteries. His tireless efforts created a safe haven for the people of the Aurora Galaxy and specifically the Telestry.

The Boy from the Darkness:

During the time of the Brightstar, at the height of the conflict, a strange new presence arrived in the Aurora Galaxy. Tom Nelion's fame would never rival that of the Brightstar, but he played a role that would dramatically change the course of history.

The Boy from the Megalith:

Tom Nelion's strange odyssey concluded in alliance with the "Odds" who followed the Brightstar. His origin was inglorious by any standard, an unholy melding of human genetics with the pure blood of the People.

The Vale of Mysteries:

The Enemy Appears

"If They succeed in eradicating the deep myths, that act obliterates our identity and reduces us to nothing more than chattel."

Nate Brightstar, a sojourner in the universe of Energematrice6, has already defeated an enemy the rest of the Aurora galaxy thought invincible. Neither that nor piercing the Vale of Mysteries can stop reality from dropping trouble on him—from either the Aurora galaxy or the troubled Milky Way.

It turns out, the battle against lies and false history may be harder than fighting physical enemies, especially as it becomes obvious that somebody powerful still has it out for him. Even more important, how can Nate come to terms with his identity when the present keeps slapping him in the face with what he used to be...or perhaps still is. Nate faces the most difficult question of his life:

"What reason could there be for one such as him?"
